All learning in Nga Tamariki Puawai is underpinned by the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whariki. Within the planning and execution of the daily programme, there is a focus on numeracy and literacy, which form the foundations for reading, writing, spelling, and and the basic concepts of maths in an environment rich with the language of learning.
Essential to this learning model are our strong partnerships with family and whanau and encouragement of tuakana/teina. This has resulted in a family atmosphere in the Centre and role modelling amongst the children, older children teaching younger children.
We understand that home is the ‘first classroom’ and parents are ‘first teachers’.
Therefore we are not looking to replace your role as parents but work with you in the development of your child’s latent potential. You are always welcome to be a part of your child’s day and our staff love sharing those precious learning moments that happen during the day, with you.
Where possible, our routines are similar to your home based setting.
